Jaecoo adds hybrid option to 5 SUV with 650-mile range

Jaecoo has confirmed a new full-hybrid version of its Jaecoo 5, adding a more efficient powertrain to its growing UK line-up.

The new SHS-H system combines a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a dedicated hybrid automatic gearbox, delivering a total output of 224PS. Jaecoo says this setup can achieve around 53 mpg, with a combined driving range of more than 650 miles.

For drivers, that translates to fewer fuel stops and a driving experience that sits somewhere between a traditional petrol car and a fully electric model. There’s no need to plug in, but you still get some of the efficiency benefits that come with hybrid technology, particularly in stop-start traffic.

In terms of positioning, this puts the Jaecoo 5 alongside other mid-size hybrid SUVs that focus on range and ease of use rather than full electrification. The overall setup is aimed at drivers who want lower running costs without changing how they refuel.

The hybrid model keeps the same look and layout as the existing petrol version and will be available in Pure and Luxury trims. Entry-level models include a 13.2-inch touchscreen, smartphone connectivity and driver assistance features, while higher-spec versions add extras like heated seats, ambient lighting and a panoramic-style roof.

Prices start from £26,270, with UK deliveries expected from Q3 2026.
