Skoda updates the current Karoq while fast-tracking an all-new replacement

Skoda Karoq is getting two very different updates at the same time and together they say quite a lot about where the family SUV market is heading.

In the short term, Skoda has announced a new Karoq Design Edition for the current model. It adds extra equipment, upgraded interior trim, larger alloy wheels, and styling tweaks for a relatively small increase in price. For everyday drivers, it’s the sort of update aimed at keeping the Karoq competitive against rivals like the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage, while still focusing on the practicality and straightforward usability the model is known for.

But the much bigger story is what comes next.

Skoda has also confirmed it is rapidly developing an entirely new-generation Karoq, expected around 2028, with development happening much faster than usual as European brands respond to pressure from newer Chinese rivals like the JAECOO 7.

The next Karoq is expected to lean heavily into hybrid technology rather than full electrification, while keeping the qualities existing drivers already like: lots of cabin space, easy-to-use tech, useful storage ideas, and a comfortable, low-stress driving experience.

In many ways, it highlights the balancing act many manufacturers are now facing. Drivers want newer technology and lower running costs, but they also still want cars that feel practical, familiar, and easy to live with every day.
