Arnold Clark Charge has launched a subscription giving drivers access to ultra-rapid charging at 39p per kWh through Octopus Electroverse.
The subscription costs £8.99 a month, compared with a standard Arnold Clark Charge rate of 55p per kWh.
At a saving of 16p per kWh, a driver would need to use approximately 57kWh each month on the network to recover the subscription cost. Beyond that point, the tariff begins delivering a net saving.
For a vehicle averaging 3.5 miles per kWh, that equates to roughly 200 miles of charging-derived range each month.
Fleet managers should assess whether vehicles regularly pass suitable locations before adopting the tariff. A low price offers limited value if drivers must divert from their routes or cannot access chargers when needed.
The subscription should also be compared with existing fleet cards, roaming agreements and reimbursement arrangements.
For fleets with regular public-charging demand, 39p per kWh could significantly narrow the cost gap between rapid and domestic charging.
The immediate action is to analyse actual charging records and identify drivers who already use the network frequently enough to benefit.
Fleet managers should also consider the network's geographic coverage. The 39p/kWh tariff applies only on Arnold Clark Charge's own ultra-rapid charging network, accessed through an Octopus Electroverse subscription. Although the network now extends from Aberdeen to Southampton, it remains concentrated in Scotland and northern England, making route analysis essential before adopting the tariff.
