Roadchef deal expands ultra-fast charging options for high-mileage fleets

Roadchef has signed a new agreement with bp pulse to expand ultra-fast EV charging across its motorway service areas, increasing the number of high-powered charging options available to drivers on longer journeys.

For fleets, the significance is straightforward: more reliable rapid charging at strategic-road locations makes electric vehicles easier to operate beyond home and depot charging.

High-mileage company cars, service fleets and vans can all depend on motorway infrastructure when daily mileage exceeds a vehicle’s comfortable single-charge range. The more high-powered bays available at established service areas, the less fleets need to build journey plans around individual charging sites.

Fleet managers should still look beyond headline charger speed. The number of bays, likely availability, payment options and the vehicle’s own maximum charging rate will determine how useful a location is in practice.

Roadchef’s agreement is another sign that motorway charging is moving towards larger, higher-capacity sites rather than isolated chargers.

For fleets reassessing routes previously considered marginal for EVs, continued investment in ultra-fast motorway infrastructure is steadily improving the operational case.
