Kia targets small SUV market with EV2 - space, simplicity and charging flexibility

Kia’s new EV2 lands in a rapidly expanding fleet sweet spot: compact electric SUVs designed to replace hybrid superminis and ageing ICE company cars.

Built in Europe and positioned below the EV3, the EV2 focuses on practicality and whole-life cost rather than outright performance. Two battery options - 42.2kWh and 61.0kWh - deliver anticipated WLTP ranges of up to 317km and 448km, covering most urban and regional fleet duty cycles.

For operators, usability is the EV2’s standout strength. Sliding and reclining rear seats, a 403-litre boot, and compact exterior dimensions make it suitable for pool fleets, salary sacrifice schemes and grey fleet replacement. Support for 11kW and 22kW AC charging aligns with real-world charging behaviour, particularly for drivers reliant on workplace or overnight charging.

Competitively, the EV2 sits alongside models such as the Volvo EX30, Jeep Avenger Electric, Vauxhall Mokka Electric and Peugeot e-2008, while also emerging as a practical counterpoint to the forthcoming Renault 4 E-Tech, another retro-inspired compact EV aimed at mainstream, everyday use rather than premium positioning.
