BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, known as Gen6, marks a major leap forward in electric vehicle performance. The latest high-voltage battery system, featuring 800V technology, delivers a 30% faster charging speed and a 30% increase in range, with some models exceeding these improvements.
Gen6 will debut this year in the Neue Klasse before being rolled out across BMW’s fully electric lineup, including high-performance BMW M models. The battery’s new, slimmer design allows for seamless integration into various models, regardless of vehicle height. It also plays a structural role in the Neue Klasse models, adopting a “pack-to-open-body” design.
A key innovation is the introduction of new cylindrical battery cells, offering 20% greater energy density compared to the previous Gen5 prismatic cells. Additionally, Gen6 technology supports bidirectional charging as standard, enabling energy to flow both to and from the battery, offering greater flexibility for future energy management solutions.
