BMW iX4 unveiled with up to 514-miles of range

BMW has unveiled its new fully-electric iX4, with the Neue Klasse SUV coupe set to launch with a choice of two powertrain variants in March 2027, followed by a high-performance M60 xDrive model.

The iX4 is effectively a sloped roof version of the iX3. It will use BMW’s 800V electrical architecture, cylindrical battery cells and more efficient electric motors. The system supports DC charging at up to 400kW as well as hugely impressive driving range.

The range-topping iX4 50 xDrive will deliver 469hp and 645Nm of torque from its dual-motor AWD system. Its 108.7kWh usable battery provides a claimed range of up to 514-miles (WLTP), with BMW stating that a mere ten minutes of charging can add up to 240-miles of range. That model accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.9-seconds.

The entry-level iX4 40 xDrive will produce 374hp and 520Nm of torque. It has a maximum range of 396-miles (WLTP) and a 0-62mph time of 5.6-seconds.

Joining the line-up will be the iX4 M60 xDrive, which will offer 612hp and 875Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.9-seconds and achieve a claimed range of up to 483-miles (WLTP).

Inside, the iX4 features BMW's Panoramic iDrive, a 17.9-inch central infotainment screen and a 3D head-up display, alongside a panoramic sunroof and a range of driver assistance technologies. The Motorway Assistant enables hands-free driving at speeds of up to 81mph on approved routes in numerous countries.

The M60 xDrive also receives adaptive M suspension, an electronically controlled rear locking differential and model-specific styling to give it a sportier look.

The iX4 will be available to order from January 2027. For fleets, the huge driving range of the new car presents an attraction for fleets that are considering an EV to comfortably cover long distances. It shows that battery technology is constantly improving, which can make the difference when covering many business miles.
