BYD has unveiled its new flagship all-electric SUV, the Atto 8, at the Paris Auto Show. It introduces the brand's ultra-fast 'Flash' charging technology alongside a seven-seat layout and a claimed driving range of up to 405-miles (WLTP).
The full-size SUV will arrive in European markets in the first quarter of 2027, with a choice of rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive powertrains. Both versions feature the brand's 115kWh second-generation Blade Battery.
The entry-level Design RWD produces around 460hp and offers up to 405-miles of WLTP range, while the Excellence AWD delivers 770hp, accelerates from 0-62mph in a mere 4.6-seconds and offers up to 374-miles of range.
The ATTO 8 is the first BYD model in Europe to feature Flash charging, which is capable of charging the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine-minutes. In temperatures as low as -30°C, the manufacturer says charging from 20% to 97% takes 12-minutes. BYD plans to install 3,000 Flash charging stations across Europe by the end of 2027.

Measuring 5,040mm long, the SUV accommodates seven occupants and offers 270-litres of luggage space with all seats in use, expanding to 1,960-litres with the middle and rear rows folded. With the third row folded, you get 960-litres.
Interior features include heated, ventilated and massage-function seats in the first two rows, a 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-in, and a panoramic glass roof.
The Atto 8 is scheduled to arrive in European markets in Q1 of 2027. An exact UK launch date and pricing hasn't been announced, but we can expect those details to follow very soon. For fleets, an EV capable of up to 400-miles that can recharge in as little as 10-minutes sounds like a car that's perfect for company car drivers that regularly cover many miles across the country.
We will have to wait and see how many of the BYD Flash charging stations will be rolled out in the UK, but the capabilities sound ideal for company car drivers concerned about fitting an EV into their lifestyle.
