BYD surges into UK top 10 after record 2025 sales performance

BYD has capped off a breakthrough year in the UK, recording 51,422 registrations in 2025 and lifting its full-year market share to 2.55%, up sharply from 0.45% in 2024. December proved particularly strong, with 7,683 vehicles registered, making BYD the sixth best-selling brand in the UK for the month.

The Chinese manufacturer also ended the year as the UK’s leading New Energy Vehicle brand, taking a 12.01% share of combined battery electric and plug-in hybrid registrations in December. The SEAL U DM-i SUV finished 2025 as Britain’s best-selling plug-in hybrid, while the Dolphin Surf emerged as BYD’s top-performing BEV and ranked as the fourth best-selling electric car in December.

The growth reflects a broader strategy FleetWise has previously highlighted, including BYD’s push into plug-in hybrids to complement its BEV range, investment in ultra-fast charging technology, and collaboration with Thatcham to reduce EV repair costs and improve fleet total cost of ownership.

Bono Ge, Country Manager of BYD UK, said: “Ending 2025 with 51,422 registrations is an unbelievable achievement for BYD UK… Our wide range of award-winning New Energy Vehicles are proving to be hugely desirable with both private and fleet buyers.”
