Chinese challenger brands surge to the top of EV fleet orders

Chinese electric vehicle brands are gaining real traction with UK fleets and salary sacrifice drivers, with new data from Octopus Electric Vehicles showing Omoda and Jaecoo leading customer orders.

The Omoda E5 finished 2025 as Octopus EV’s best-selling electric car, ahead of the Tesla Model Y and Mercedes EQB. The trend accelerated in the final quarter of the year, when the Jaecoo E5 BEV climbed to the top of Q4 rankings just months after launch, highlighting growing appetite for high-spec EVs offered at competitive prices.

Octopus EV says the full-year results underline how value, familiarity and everyday usability continue to shape demand among fleet and salary sacrifice drivers.

Alvin Castillo, procurement director at Octopus Electric Vehicles, said the Jaecoo E5 quickly proved its appeal after launch, adding: “When great design and great value line up, drivers move fast.”

Chris Clayton, head of fleet at Omoda and Jaecoo UK, said interest in both brands is creating a strong platform for fleet growth in 2026.

Looking ahead, Castillo expects competition to intensify, with 2026 shaping up as “the year of the electric hatchback”, bringing more choice and further pressure on pricing as challenger brands continue to disrupt established players.
