Fleet buyers considering small electric vehicles have a new contender to consider, the striking new Hyundai Ioniq 3 hatchback.
It's priced from £22,245, making it competitive against the likes of the Renault 5, Mini Cooper Electric, and Kia EV2.
Four trim lines are available; the entry-level Advance, which comes with either a 42kWh or 61kWh battery pack, the mid-range Premium adds a solar windscreen, wireless phone charger and the EV Pack as an option, which includes a heat pump.
This is followed by the Ultimate, which throws in LED Matrix headlights and the options of heated front and rear seats as well as the Bose premium sound system.
At the top is the N Line Evo, which incorporates a more sporting look including a set of 19-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the N Line adds a 14.6-inch central screen as well as 360-degree parking sensors, remote smart parking assist and even a memory reverse assistance system - like a Mercedes S-Class.

All trims come standard with the usual safety equipment such as blind spot monitoring, lane keeping assistance, and what Hyundai calls 'smart cruise control'. As for practicality, the boot capacity is 441-litres teamed with an interior full of useful storage spaces - a theme usual to Hyundai and Kia models.
Hyundai is expecting all 61kWh models to be eligible for the Band 2 level of the Electric Car Grant (ECG). But until that's confirmed, the brand is currently offering a £1,500 saving upon reservations for those models.
For instance, a 61kWh Ioniq 3 Advance would usually start from £25,745, but is now available for £24,245. The 42.2kWh model currently isn't eligible for any grant.
What's more, those 61kWh versions claim up to 308-miles of range (WLTP) as well as a charging speed of 10-80% in just 30-minutes when hooked up to a 350kW rapid charger. As for the entry-level 42.2kWh battery, that has a 214-mile claimed range.

For fleets, the fact Hyundai is prepared to offer buyers its own grant upon reservations suggest that it needs to look attractive in the increasingly busy small electric car segment. As well as the aforementioned Renault 5 and Mini, a range of new Chinese vehicles are landing on UK turf to give the establishments firm competition. A good example being the Aion UT.
