BYD Ti7 SUV goes on sale in the UK from under £50k

The BYD Ti7 has just entered the UK market and is priced from £47,995, giving fleets a new choice for an off-road orientated SUV to compete with the Land Rover Defender.

Using a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine aiding two electric motors, the Ti7 produces up to 483hp and gets from 0-62mph in just 4.8 seconds. Electric only range? You’re looking at around 74 miles from its 35.6kWh battery pack.

The Ti7 is 5.1 metres long, which places it between the length of the Land Rover Defender 110 and 130 models. Team this with the starting price, and the BYD pitches itself as a key value competitor, as the base price for a Defender 90 is £58,655.

Though badged as a BYD, the Ti7 is a larger, seven-seat version of the Denza Bao 5 – also arriving on UK shores later in the year. In China, both are sold under BYD’s Fangchengbao brand.

 

Inside the Ti7 is a string of digital displays including a Google-powered infotainment system and ambient lighting to add a luxurious feel. It’s a more quaint affair than the Bao 5, which places the appeal of the Ti7 in-line with buyers considering the likes of the Volvo XC90, Land Rover Discovery, or BMW iX3.

For fleet buyers, the Ti7 represents a clear ambition for the BYD group and other Chinese car manufacturers – such as Zeekr – to compete in the premium SUV sector. The keen price point, equipment levels and performance of the Ti7 has the potential to appeal to businesses looking for an alternative to the established luxury off-roaders.
