Lower-cost Mercedes GLC EQ takes aim at BMW iX3

Mercedes-Benz has widened the appeal of its new GLC EQ by introducing lower-priced versions of the electric SUV, giving company car drivers more choice in one of the market's most competitive segments.

The move comes as Mercedes looks to strengthen its position against the recently launched BMW iX3, one of the most talked-about premium EVs of 2026.

The new entry-level GLC 250 starts from £55,495 and uses a single electric motor producing 354PS. Despite being the least expensive model in the range, it still offers up to 389 miles of WLTP range, making it a strong option for high-mileage business drivers.

For those wanting extra performance and all-wheel drive, the GLC 400 4Matic starts from £60,350. Its dual-motor setup delivers 489PS, a 0-62mph time of 4.3 seconds and up to 406 miles of range.

For company car users, the bigger story is how competitive the GLC has become. A near-400-mile range, 800-volt charging technology and the ability to add almost 190 miles of range in 10 minutes address two of the biggest concerns around EV ownership: charging time and long-distance usability.

The GLC also offers 570 litres of boot space, a 128-litre front storage compartment and a high-tech cabin featuring a 39.1-inch widescreen display.

With BMW's iX3 grabbing headlines, Mercedes is clearly signalling that buyers no longer need to spend flagship-level money to access premium EV performance, range and technology.
