UK fleet managers still expect an electric future despite policy uncertainty

Confidence in long-term electrification remains high among UK fleet managers even as regulatory uncertainty affects shorter-term decisions.

Alphabet’s latest European Fleet Emission Monitor finds that 85% of UK fleet managers expect their fleets eventually to become fully electric, up from 71% last year.

Across Europe, however, 60% say regulatory uncertainty is influencing decisions between 2026 and 2030.

That creates an interesting divide between destination and timing.

Fleets may still believe electrification is where they are heading, but uncertainty around regulation, infrastructure and policy can alter how quickly vehicles are replaced.

UK businesses also perform relatively strongly on measurement: 68% monitor fleet CO₂, compared with only 34% across Europe.

For fleet managers, the practical response is to separate decisions that genuinely depend on future regulation from those where the business case already works.

Vehicles with predictable mileage, reliable charging and attractive whole-life costs do not necessarily need to wait for complete policy certainty.
