Volkswagen ID.3 Neo goes on sale - all models eligible for £1,500 grant

The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo has landed in the UK market with all variants eligible for the Government's £1,500 Electric Car Grant (ECG).

This is the Band 2 level of the ECG, with cars under Band 1 are eligible for the full £3,750 grant.

The ID.3 Neo is available in three trim levels upon launch: the entry-level Life (£33,080 before grant), which come standard with adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, 12.9-inch infotainment screen, and VW's IDA voice assistant.

The Life is followed by the Style (£38,500), which adds keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel and LED matrix headlights. At the top of the range is the limited-run Style Launch Edition (£39,750), which includes a head-up display, panoramic glass roof and even massaging front seats.

To top it off, the Launch Edition even has memory and remote parking - a feature previously reserved for top-end luxury limousines.

As for powertrains, the ID.3 Neo has three different battery pack options, starting with the 50kWh unit with 170hp and a claimed range of 258-miles (WLTP). Next is the 58kWh unit with 190hp and up to 306-miles of range, topped by the 79kWh pack with 230hp and up to 390-miles to boast.

Inside, it's out with touchscreen controls and in with physical knobs and switches. VW said it listened to customer feedback regarding the previous-generation ID.3 and made the Neo an ergonomically-easier vehicle to operate. In the centre of the dashboard for example, there's an array of switches for basic functions such as the air con and heated windscreens.

The 12.9-inch infotainment system is also larger than before and the whole cabin is styled to be similar to VW's new ID Polo. All of which represents a new design direction for the Wolfsburg giant.

For fleets, the ID.3 Neo represents an improvement over the previous ID.3 and VW answering customer feedback from its early range of electric vehicles. With the £1,500 grant in place, the Neo is also increasingly more competitive against both the established rivals and newcomers from China.
