£41m of stolen vehicles recovered, says DVLA – which models are most at risk?

More than £41 million worth of stolen vehicles were recovered in 2025, highlighting the scale of vehicle crime still facing UK fleets.

Figures from DVLA and Tracker show a 55% rise in recoveries, with 90,000 vehicles reported stolen across England and Wales last year. While overall thefts fell slightly year-on-year, they remain significantly higher than a decade ago.

Crucially for fleets, it’s not just high-end vehicles being targeted. Most recovered cars were worth between £10,000 and £20,000, underlining that everyday vans, pickups and cars are firmly on criminals’ radar.

Most stolen vehicles in 2025

  • Yamaha NMAX 125
  • Ford Transit 350
  • Toyota Hilux Invincible X
  • Honda WW 125
  • Nissan Navara Tekna
  • Ford Transit 350 Leader
  • Toyota C-HR
  • Ford Fiesta Zetec
  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 314CDI
  • Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313 CDI

FleetWise’s Trusted Brands list highlights several suppliers that can help reduce this risk. Providers such as ABAX and Crystal Ball offer tracking and visibility tools that improve recovery chances, while platforms like Chevin help fleets monitor vehicle use and spot unusual activity early.

Organised crime groups are increasingly behind thefts, with profits feeding wider criminal activity. For fleets, it reinforces the need for layered protection – combining tracking, visibility and driver awareness – particularly around busy periods like new plate changes, when thefts tend to spike.
