Mitsubishi Outlander returns with 53-mile electric range and seven-seat option

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is back in the UK, aiming to reclaim its place in a plug-in hybrid market it helped create.

Priced from £46,995, the new Outlander combines a 2.4-litre petrol engine with twin electric motors and a 22.7kWh battery, delivering a combined 299PS, all-wheel drive and an official electric-only range of up to 53 miles. CO₂ emissions of just 20g/km should also keep benefit-in-kind costs attractive for company car drivers.

For fleets, the headline is that Mitsubishi has significantly improved the electric capability compared with previous generations, bringing the Outlander into line with newer PHEV rivals from brands such as BYD and Jaecoo.

The new model is available in two trims. Nativa offers seven seats, making it one of the few plug-in hybrid SUVs in its class to combine low-emission driving with occasional third-row practicality. Diamond trim adds premium features including ventilated seats, a panoramic roof and upgraded cabin materials.

Standard equipment includes a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, a head-up display, 360-degree camera and physical climate controls.

Mitsubishi has also retained a focus on towing and all-weather capability. Permanent all-wheel drive, multiple terrain modes and a 1,600kg braked towing capacity should appeal to fleets operating in rural or mixed-use environments.

For buyers looking for a familiar, proven PHEV formula, the Outlander remains a compelling option.
