Public EV Charging Growth Remains Strong as High-Powered Infrastructure Surges – Zapmap November 2025

The UK’s public EV charging network continues its steady expansion, with the latest Zapmap data revealing 87,168 charging devices now installed across 44,326 locations as of the end of November 2025. This represents a 20% year-on-year increase in total device numbers, underlining sustained progress in network availability for fleets and drivers.

Monthly growth remained consistent, with 370 net new charging devices added since October. Importantly for fleets undertaking longer regional or motorway journeys, 91 of these new units are rapid (50kW+) or ultra-rapid (150kW+) chargers, strengthening the higher-powered end of the UK network.

High-Powered Charging Accelerates – Despite Slower Overall Growth

While overall charging growth in 2025 has eased compared with the rapid expansion seen in 2024, high-powered charging continues to show significant momentum.
Zapmap reports 17,829 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers now available across 6,604 UK locations, providing improved support for time-sensitive fleet operations and long-distance logistics.

Ultra-rapid infrastructure in particular is seeing exceptional rollout, with 2,738 new ultra-rapid charger points installed since the start of the year, signalling strong investment from charge point operators and retailers seeking to meet commercial and fleet demand.

Wales and the North West Lead Regional Growth

Regional growth patterns show a shift away from the traditional dominance of London and the South East:

Wales continues to outpace the rest of the UK with over 27% YoY growth in public charging devices.

The North West records the fastest growth in high-powered charging infrastructure nationwide, with a 38% YoY increase.

These gains point to a more balanced national network and improved charging resilience for fleets operating outside major metropolitan areas.

Fleet Implications

The latest data reinforces several key trends:

Long-distance EV operation is becoming more viable, thanks to fast expansion in rapid and ultra-rapid charging.

Regional disparities are narrowing, supporting nationwide fleet electrification.

Growth is steady rather than explosive, requiring fleet planners to keep a close eye on location-specific infrastructure when modelling EV integration.

FleetWise will continue to track monthly infrastructure updates. Full details of the UK’s public charging network can be found on Zapmap’s stats page.
