Skoda adds plug-in hybrid option to Superb Hatch

Škoda Auto is expanding the electrified line-up of its Škoda Superb with a new plug-in hybrid version of the hatchback, delivering higher performance than the existing PHEV system offered in the estate.

The new Superb hatch iV combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, producing a total output of 272PS. Power comes from a 25.7kWh battery, which is expected to provide an electric-only driving range of at least 70 miles.

For company car drivers, the extended electric range could allow many daily commutes to be completed entirely on battery power, helping reduce fuel use and emissions.

The upgraded powertrain enables the hatchback to accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds, making it the most powerful Škoda model currently fitted with a combustion engine. To support the added performance, engineers have introduced larger brakes and revised front cooling ducts.

The new variant joins the existing plug-in hybrid range, which includes the 204PS system used in the Škoda Superb Estate and Škoda Kodiaq iV models.

UK pricing and detailed specifications are expected to be confirmed closer to launch.
