The BMW iX3 has been named 2026 World Car of the Year, recognising a model that combines long range, fast charging and everyday usability in a format familiar to fleet drivers.
The iX3 also took the World Electric Car title. Built on BMW’s new Neue Klasse platform, it introduces improved efficiency, updated driver systems and a redesigned interior centred around the brand’s new panoramic iDrive display. Entry-level versions offer a claimed range of up to 395 miles, alongside rapid charging capability aimed at reducing downtime on longer journeys. The price isn't bad either - £53k at entry.

There was also a strong UK link, with the Nissan Leaf, built in Sunderland, finishing second overall.
Other winners included the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, named World Performance Car, while the Lucid Gravity took the luxury award. Nio’s Firefly model was named World Urban Car and is expected to arrive in the UK.
