New hybrid Peugeots are BiK friendlier

Peugeot 408 Hybrid car

Peugeot has introduced a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for the 308, 308 SW, and 408, combining a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 125hp electric motor and a larger 17.2kWh battery. The system is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, already seen in the latest 3008 and 5008 models.

The new battery extends electric-only driving ranges, offering up to 48 miles in the 408 Plug-In Hybrid 225 and up to 49 miles in the 308 and 308 SW Plug-In Hybrid 195. This results in a 9% Benefit-in-Kind rate for 2025/26, reducing tax by 4% compared to previous plug-in hybrid models. Company car drivers will save between £28 and £60 per month for the 408, and between £24 and £55 for the 308 and 308 SW.

CO2 emissions start from 18g/km, up to 13g/km lower than before. Power output is 225hp and 360Nm for the 408, while the 308 and 308 SW deliver 195hp and 360Nm.
The powertrain includes Hybrid, Electric, and Sport drive modes. Electric mode enables driving at up to 83mph with zero emissions. A 3.7kW onboard charger is standard, allowing a full charge in four hours 20 minutes, or just over two hours with an optional 7.4kW charger.
