Porsche is set to become the first carmaker to launch an 11 kW inductive charging system, offering cable-free home charging when the all-electric Cayenne arrives at the end of 2025.
The new technology lets drivers simply park over a floor-mounted plate, eliminating the need for wallboxes or cables. Sales of the charging plate will begin in 2026 through Porsche Centres and the company’s online shop.
Porsche says the system delivers wired-level AC performance with up to 90% efficiency. A copper coil embedded in a weatherproof base plate generates a magnetic field, converted to direct current by a receiver in the vehicle’s underbody. The Cayenne automatically lowers a few centimetres to optimise the energy transfer. Safety features include motion detection and foreign-object recognition, while charging starts automatically once the vehicle is aligned, aided by Surround View camera guidance.
Drivers can monitor or control the process via the My Porsche app, which supports multiple vehicles. The plate features LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity for over-the-air updates and long-term infrastructure support, and has been TÜV Süd-tested and certified for Europe and the US.
The Cayenne Electric will also accept high-speed DC charging up to 400 kW for rapid top-ups on long journeys. Porsche showcased a prototype with a fluorescent paint finish that glows while charging at the IAA Mobility show in Munich.
The inductive system will launch in Europe first, with other markets to follow, signalling a major step toward convenient, cable-free EV charging.
