Chinese EV maker AION targets UK expansion with first eight showrooms

AION, the electric brand of China's GAC Group, has begun retail operations in Britain, opening an initial eight dealerships as it lays the groundwork for rapid expansion.

The customer-facing sites span Beverley, Leeds, Newcastle, Newton Abbot, Shrewsbury, Slough, Swansea and Winchester, run by established groups including JCT600, Richard Hardie and Martins Group.

The brand, which is a joint venture between GAC International and Jameel Motors, is targetting 15 outlets by the end of June and 30 by the close of 2026, with Leicester, Nottingham, Derby and Cardiff next in the pipeline.

Each site handles sales, servicing, and parts for the AION V, the marque's mid-size family SUV and debut model. The Aion V is equipped with a 75.4 kWh battery and a 150kW electric motor, delivering a WLTP range of up to 317 miles. DC fast charging enables the battery to be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in 24 minutes.

Prices open at £36,450 on the road.

Buyers receive the eight-year "Great 8" package covering warranty, servicing, roadside assistance and MOTs, while a tie-up with the AA provides nationwide aftersales support. Deliveries can be expected imminently.

The first catalogue of locations includes AION Beverley (Right Car), AION Leeds (JCT600), AION Newcastle (Richard Hardie), AION Newton Abbot (Speedwell), AION Shrewsbury (Sailhouse Cars), AION Slough (Jameel Motors), AION Swansea (Bassetts) and AION Winchester (Martins Group).
