Leapmotor B05 arrives with 300-mile range and sub-£30k price tag

Priced from £30,495, or £28,995 after Leapmotor's own £1,500 "Leap Grant", the B05 undercuts key rivals such as the Volkswagen ID.3, Cupra Born, Peugeot E-308 and Renault Megane E-Tech while offering a headline 300-mile WLTP range.

For everyday company car drivers, that's likely to be the biggest draw. Range remains one of the first questions many drivers ask when considering an EV, and the B05's 300-mile figure puts it ahead of many entry-level versions of its mainstream rivals.

Performance should be more than adequate too. A 215PS rear-mounted motor delivers a 0-62mph time of 6.7 seconds, while rapid charging at up to 178kW can take the battery from 30% to 80% in just 17 minutes.

Leapmotor has also avoided the temptation to strip out equipment to hit a lower price point. Standard specification includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a suite of driver assistance systems including adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring.

While Leapmotor remains a relatively new name in the UK, backing from Stellantis gives the brand greater credibility than many new entrants.

For drivers who might previously have looked at a Volkswagen ID.3, Vauxhall Astra Electric or Cupra Born, the B05 is another sign that competition in the electric hatchback market is intensifying.
