Warranty data highlights the most reliable used EVs for fleets

New warranty claims data suggests not all used EVs perform equally, with some models proving significantly more reliable than others as more electric vehicles enter the second-hand market.

Warranty Solutions Group analysed around 2,500 EV warranty claims and found a 23-fold difference in claim rates between the best and worst-performing models.

Among the standout performers were:

  • Renault Zoe – 1.49% claim rate
  • BMW i3 – 2.17%
  • MG ZS EV – 2.33%
  • Nissan Leaf – 2.42%
  • Tesla Model Y – 3.33%

At the other end of the scale, the Tesla Model S recorded a claim rate of more than 34%, while the Mercedes-Benz EQV and Tesla Model X also featured among the highest.

The report found that many of the most common repairs relate to everyday components rather than high-voltage batteries. Central locking, charging flap actuators, suspension components and charging ports generated the most claims, although battery faults accounted for the largest individual repair bills.

For fleets, the findings reinforce the importance of looking beyond badge appeal when setting replacement policies. As used EV values continue to strengthen, real-world reliability data can help identify models that minimise downtime, reduce maintenance costs and give second-life buyers greater confidence.
