Audi A2 E-Tron unveiled with 401-mile range and £32k starting price

Fleets shopping for a practical lower medium EV have a brand new option, the Audi A2 E-Tron. It harks back to the classic model - now nearly 30 years old - and promises impressive efficiency.

The Audi A2 E-Tron will start from £32,200 in the UK, stretching above £40,000 for top-spec models. It has a claimed maximum range of 401-miles (WLTP), as well as an efficiency of up to 7.8-miles per kWh. This would place the A2 as one of the most efficient EVs on sale, mirroring the impressive efficiency of its ancestor.

The A2 E-Tron will be available with three battery sizes: 52kWh, 61kWh and 84kWh, and will allow DC charging up to 183kW, to which Audi claims it takes between 24 to 29-minutes to charge from 10-80%.

As for powertrains, a choice of four is offered; starting with the 170hp entry-level model with a 0-60mph time of 8.8-seconds. At the top end of the spectrum is a 326hp model, which gets from 0-62mph in 5.6-seconds.

The A2 E-Tron sits on the same platform as the sibling Volkswagen ID.3 Neo and Cupra Born models. Though unconfirmed at the time of writing, there is potential for some A2 models to be eligible for Band 2 of the UK Government's Electric Car Grant, which would dip the car's starting price from £32,200 to £30,700. The ID.3 Neo is eligible for this grant.

Inside, the A2 E-Tron carries over familiar Audi design elements from the likes of the Q4 E-Tron and A3 models. The 12.8-inch central touchscreen and 11.9-inch drivers display dominate the dashboard. Buttons are placed where Audi believes 'are most useful' in everyday driving.

Additionally, functions such as Microsoft Teams can be accessed via voice control, which Audi coin as the 'connected work' element. A choice of 30 colours for the ambient lights and plenty of recycled materials is designed to make the A2 a unique place to be.

As for practicality, the A2 E-Tron offers 396-litres of boot space (seats up), which is slightly more than the ID.3 Neo (386-litres).

UK order books for the Audi A2 E-Tron will open in October 2026 with first deliveries commencing from early 2027.

Fleets looking for an upgrade from a Volkswagen ID.3 Neo may want to take a closer look at the A2 E-Tron. It not only promises more range and efficiency, but slightly more practicality as well as a callback to a unique corner of Audi's heritage.
