Typical petrol driver spends annual EV charging costs in just five months

9 June is the point in the year where the average UK petrol driver will have spent more on fuel than an EV driver does in a whole year, says data from The Electric Car Scheme.
As such, the company labelled 9 June as Electric Car Day.
ECD 2026 has arrived 24 days earlier than in 2025, due to rising petrol prices and the lower EV running costs.

2026 data shows that an average petrol driver will spend £1353 on fuel, as opposed to £592 for an EV driver charging at home.
