After over three years of anticipation, the Jaguar Type 01 has finally lifted covers, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the storied marque. The four-door GT is set to go on sale from February next year and is like no other Jaguar that came before.
The Type 01 is the first model of Jaguar's EV-only model lineup and subsequent re-branding. Two models will follow, which is expected to consist of a more traditional four-door limousine and a large SUV.
It's coined to start from around £120,000, pitching it firmly against the likes of the BMW i7, Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS. Well-specified cars will be nearer to £150,000, meaning the Type 01 sits between the newly unveiled Range Rover Electric and Range Rover Sport Electric in JLR's EV model range.

As for specs, the Jaguar Type 01 houses a triple motor powertrain teamed with a 118kWh battery pack. Driving range tops out at 450-miles (WLTP), although Jaguar says that drops to around 320-miles at motorway speeds. It can charge at a rate of 350kW and, if you found such a powerful unit, it could add up to 200-miles in 13-minutes. It also has a total of 1,030hp, making it the most powerful production big cat of all time.
As well as boasting clever all-independent suspension, the Type 01's all-wheel steering system means its turning circle is nearly the same as a medium-size hatchback. Impressive for a car that's 5.2-metres long. 0-62mph is dealt with in 3.2-seconds, which places it in-line with the aforementioned Porsche Taycan.

Climbing inside, the new Jaguar is a radically different place than its predecessors. The minimalist, modern design language of the dashboard and switch gear is very similar to that of the teased Range Rover GT, signalling JLR's shared technology and components.
For fleets, the new Jaguar represents a turning point for the full-size luxury EV segment. It's set to be a sleeker, less conservative rival to anything the German manufacturers offer, while also being Benefit-in-Kind tax-friendly. For company CEOs and boardroom-level directors, the Type 01 is a very interesting company car proposition.
