Longer EV test drives could improve salary-sacrifice uptake

Extended test drives are emerging as another way for fleets to increase employee confidence in electric vehicles.

Genesis has expanded its EV test-drive programme for salary-sacrifice drivers, allowing employees more time with a vehicle than a conventional dealership demonstration.

For fleet managers, the idea has broader relevance. Questions around range, charging and unfamiliar technology are often easier to resolve through real use than through brochures, webinars or policy documents.

An employee who can test an EV on their normal commute, charge it at home and experience a typical working day is likely to make a more informed decision.

Businesses running salary-sacrifice or company-car schemes should therefore ask providers whether extended demonstrations, workplace test-drive events or charging assessments can be included.

The objective is not to push employees into EVs regardless of suitability.

It is to remove uncertainty where an electric vehicle already makes operational and financial sense.

A longer trial could be one of the simplest ways to turn interest into confident adoption.
