Volkswagen introduces long-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo

Volkswagen's commercial vehicle division has unveiled a long-wheelbase version of the ID. Buzz Cargo, which offers increased space, load capacity, towing capability and additional tech.

The new model increases load volume from 3.9m³ to 4.4m³, with the load area itself extended by 250mm to 2.46m. A second sliding door is fitted as standard and is 190mm wider, allowing a standard Euro pallet to be loaded through the side. Maximum payload is up to 700kg for rear-wheel-drive models and 606kg for all-wheel-drive variants.

The ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is powered by an 86kWh battery, with power outputs between around 280hp to 340hp, depending on the specification. Both versions offer a maximum braked towing capacity of 1,800kg, up from the standard van's 1,200kg max.

Volkswagen is also introducing a number of new functions, including one-pedal driving and an updated Travel Assist system which, bizarrely, is capable of recognising traffic signals and can automatically stop at red signals. Clever stuff.

The new vehicle-to-load function can supply up to 3.0kW continuously to external electrical equipment, which could allow tools to be powered directly from the van's battery.

UK order books will open in early 2027, with the first vehicles expected to arrive in the Spring. Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to launch, but we expect it to be competitive against the rivaling Kia PV7, which was just recently unveiled.
