Electric vehicle drivers using slow chargers have seen prices fall, according to the AA's EV Recharge Report for July. Peak rate slow charging dropped by 2p to 56p/kWh, while standard-rate slow charging fell by 1p to 49p/kWh, mirroring the cut in Ofgem’s domestic energy cap.
Fast charging costs, however, rose by 2p to 62p/kWh, while rapid (74p) and ultra-rapid (78p) rates were unchanged.
Typical charging costs now stand at:
• Domestic (up to 7kW): 26p/kWh (£10.40 for 80% charge, 5.9p per mile)
• Slow (up to 8kW): 49p/kWh (£19.60, 11.1p per mile)
• Fast (8-49kW): 62p/kWh (£24.80, 14.0p per mile)
• Rapid (50-149kW): 74p/kWh (£29.60, 16.7p per mile)
• Ultra-rapid (150kW+): 78p/kWh (£31.20, 17.6p per mile)
AA head of roads policy Jack Cousens welcomed the drop but said more action is needed: “Removing VAT from public charging remains a simple solution. Tackling high UK electricity prices would also drive costs down further.”
