AI rundown: 25% emissions cut enabled by AI route optimisation

Artificial intelligence continues to move beyond the hype and into day-to-day fleet operations, with this week's developments showing how the technology is increasingly being applied to solve practical business challenges.

The strongest example comes from Restore Information Management, which says it has cut fleet mileage and CO2 emissions by 25% at four sites after introducing AI-powered route optimisation from Optimize.

The platform analyses customer locations and operational data to build more efficient delivery schedules, while also increasing deliveries per route by 39%. The company says the improvements are giving it a stronger foundation for future decisions around vehicle utilisation, electrification and alternative fuels.

Elsewhere, AI is beginning to tackle some of fleet management's biggest administrative headaches. Blossom Vehicle Leasing has launched Meet Sam, an AI assistant that provides fleet managers with instant access to live vehicle information, compliance reminders and servicing schedules, reducing the need for manual administration and improving visibility across the fleet.

Meanwhile, rental specialist vFleet has introduced AI-powered damage assessment technology that uses video capture to generate repair estimates and identify incremental vehicle damage, helping reduce disputes, speed up end-of-rental inspections and improve transparency.
