Microlise report highlights technology's growing role in fleet resilience

Technology is helping transport operators balance increasing commercial, regulatory and sustainability pressures, according to Microlise's latest Navigating UK Transport and Logistics in 2026 and Beyond report.

Based on a survey of 250 transport and logistics professionals, the research found that safety remains one of the biggest success stories. Nine in ten managers said advances in fleet technology have helped drivers feel safer than they did five years ago, while 83% reported that in-cab cameras had helped prevent a serious accident. More than eight in ten organisations are also now using AI to support fleet and supply chain operations.

The report highlights a strong commercial case for digital investment, with almost 60% of operators reporting savings of up to £100,000 through transport management systems. However, it also reveals there is still work to do. Managers spend an average of 2.3 hours every day manually processing proof of delivery documentation, costing businesses more than £170 per day on average.

Overall, the findings suggest the sector is becoming increasingly data-driven, but that significant efficiency gains remain available for fleets willing to automate manual processes and better connect their operational data.
