Dacia cuts Spring price to become UK's cheapest new car

Dacia has cut the price of its all-electric Spring by £4,000, making it the UK's cheapest new car and further intensifying competition at the affordable end of the EV market.

The entry-level Spring Expression now starts from just £11,990, while the higher-specification Extreme model is priced from £12,990. The move sees the Spring undercut rivals including the Leapmotor T03, while also costing less than Dacia's own petrol-powered Sandero.

The revised pricing follows a significant update introduced late last year, which brought a new 24.3kWh LFP battery, revised suspension and braking, plus improved performance. The entry-level model offers up to 140 miles of WLTP range from a 69bhp motor, while the Extreme version increases output to 99bhp and adds a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reversing camera and vehicle-to-load functionality.

Despite its budget positioning, every Spring comes equipped with features including air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a digital driver's display.

For fleets, the Spring demonstrates how rapidly the entry-level EV market is evolving. While its 140-mile range makes it best suited to urban and local journeys rather than high-mileage drivers, its new price point could make it an attractive option for pool cars, last-mile operations and businesses looking to introduce low-cost electric vehicles into their fleet.
