EV sales down in Europe in 2024 – JATO

New data from JATO Dynamics reveals a year-on-year decline in electric vehicle (EV) registrations across Europe. While overall new car sales in 28 European countries grew by 0.9% in 2024, EV registrations fell by 1.2%. Petrol cars maintained their dominance with a 48% market share, while hybrids saw the biggest increase, reaching 11.4%.

Despite this slight growth, the European car market remains 2.9 million units smaller than pre-pandemic levels. Analyst Felipe Munoz noted that rising vehicle costs, inflation, remote work, and alternative transport solutions have hindered recovery. Notably, China became the sixth-largest source of new car registrations, surpassing the UK, Turkey, Japan, and South Korea.
