How one fleet reduced tyre failures by matching tyres to the job

Wastewater transport specialist Wrights of Twycross has cut tyre failures and improved fleet visibility after overhauling its tyre management strategy across a fleet of around 200 trucks and 65 vans.

Operating across highways, utility sites, rural roads and off-road environments, the company found tyre performance varied significantly depending on where vehicles were working. Trucks typically cover around 100,000 miles annually, with rural routes proving particularly challenging.

Before the change, tyre fitment decisions were largely made by individual service providers, resulting in a mix of brands and specifications across the fleet. According to Wrights, this led to tyres being fitted that were not always suited to the vehicle's role or operating environment.

Working with Prometeon and service partner Tanvic, the business introduced an application-led tyre strategy that matched tyre choice to terrain, vehicle type and duty cycle. The company says tyre splitting and damage caused by stones on rural routes has reduced significantly since the change.

Alongside the tyre programme, Wrights implemented Prometeon's digital Pro Management portal, providing visibility of tyre inspections, maintenance records and fitment history.

While purchase price can dominate procurement decisions, Wrights found that selecting the right product for the application helped reduce failures, improve reliability and strengthen compliance processes.
