Microlise bets on AI and EV data as van fleet demands rapidly evolve

Microlise says it has added 400 new customers in the past year as it expands beyond traditional HGV telematics and targets growing demand from van fleets navigating electrification, compliance and operational complexity.

The fleet technology provider is now rolling AI across its platform, including new in-cab camera functionality and its upcoming TruControl Compliance AI Agent, which is designed to answer fleet compliance questions using both public datasets and Microlise’s own operational insight.

Chief technology officer Dean Garvey-North said the aim is to eliminate “dashboard hunting”, surfacing the right action at the right time for fleet operators.

Internally, Microlise says AI is already delivering measurable gains, reducing routine task times by 40%, improving engineering productivity by 65% and cutting software bugs by 60%.

CEO Nadeen Raza believes one of the biggest future opportunities lies in helping fleets understand the real-world operational impact of EVs, particularly for vans.

“We’re seeing variations of 20-25% just from temperature changes,” he said, referring to EV range fluctuations caused by weather, load and route conditions.

That kind of operational visibility is becoming increasingly valuable for fleets trying to decide which routes can realistically be electrified without disrupting service levels.
