The UK’s public EV charging network has surpassed 120,000 chargers for the first time, with ultra-rapid charging continuing to show the strongest growth.
New figures from Zapmap show 1,308 net new chargers were added during April, bringing the UK total to 120,388 devices across on-street, destination and en-route locations.
The milestone charger was installed by Raw Charging at National Trust site Lydford Gorge in Devon.
According to Zapmap, ultra-rapid chargers rated at 150kW and above grew by almost 40% year-on-year, reaching 13,346 devices nationwide. These chargers are typically capable of charging an EV battery from 20-80% in around 20-30 minutes.
The number of rapid charging hubs – defined as locations with eight or more rapid or ultra-rapid chargers – also passed 1,000 for the first time.
For fleets, the continued growth of ultra-rapid and hub charging infrastructure is significant because it directly affects route planning flexibility, charging downtime and confidence around wider EV adoption. Zapmap said demand for reliable en-route charging hubs continues to grow as more drivers and fleets transition to electric vehicles.
Alongside infrastructure tracking, Zapmap also offers live charger availability, route planning and payment tools that can help fleets plan journeys more confidently as public charging usage increases.
