Toyota reworks bZ4X electric SUV with more power and comfort

Toyota has unveiled a significantly updated bZ4X for Europe, bringing a broader battery line-up, stronger performance and meaningful improvements to charging, comfort and cabin tech, ahead of first market introductions from December 2025 (with wider roll-out into early 2026).

At the heart of the update is a fully-revised electric powertrain with new batteries and upgraded eAxles. Fleet buyers will be able to choose between two lithium-ion packs: 57.7kWh (exclusive to a mid-grade, front-wheel-drive model) or 73.1kWh, offered in both FWD and AWD versions. Outputs span 123kW (167hp), 165kW (224hp) and up to 252kW (343hp) for the AWD flagship.

Toyota claims a maximum WLTP range of up to 569km for the 73.1kWh FWD variant on 18-inch wheels, supported by efficiency-focused updates including improved eAxle hardware and inverter technology.
For fleets operating in mixed climates, the charging story should be more compelling: the updated bZ4X adds battery pre-conditioning to help deliver more consistent rapid-charging performance, alongside availability of a 22kW onboard AC charger on higher grades. Toyota quotes 10-80% in around 28 minutes on DC fast charging (150kW), and as little as 2.2 hours for 10-80% on 22kW AC where supported.

Practicality has also been lifted. The AWD model’s braked towing capacity rises to 1500kg (FWD remains lower), adding extra versatility for users who need genuine SUV capability. Toyota is also doubling down on refinement, with suspension tuning aimed at improved ride comfort (especially for rear passengers), additional NVH insulation measures, and subtle aero-focused exterior tweaks that further develop the 'hammerhead' front-end design.

Inside, the updated bZ4X adopts a cleaner, more horizontal dashboard layout with a 14-inch multimedia display and a 'digital island' centre console, reflecting Toyota’s push to make the cabin feel more open and modern for day-to-day driving.
