Fleet operators that bought or leased new vehicles between October 2006 and September 2015 could be eligible for compensation following approval of a £55.9m settlement linked to historic vehicle-shipping price fixing.

An estimated 17.8 million UK vehicles were affected across 37 major automotive brands. Businesses, including fleet operators, rental companies and public-sector fleets, can register to claim. Payments start at £25 for the first eligible vehicle, with additional amounts for further vehicles.

For fleet managers, the opportunity is immediate: identify vehicles acquired during the affected period and check whether historic purchase or lease records are still available.

Companies registered on the DVLA Fleet database may have eligible vehicle totals presented automatically during the claims process.

The individual sums may be modest, but across larger historic fleets they can add up.
