On-street charging gap remains a challenge fleets cannot solve alone

More than 90% of UK councils now have public EV charging, but half still provide no on-street charging, according to new Vauxhall research.

The proportion offering on-street infrastructure has risen from 31% in 2023 to 39%, showing progress but also highlighting the remaining challenge for drivers without private parking.

For fleets, that should not be a reason to restrict EV adoption unnecessarily.

Instead, charging access should form part of individual vehicle suitability assessments. Drivers without a driveway may still have viable workplace, local or public charging options.

Businesses can also help by expanding workplace provision and ensuring reimbursement policies do not disadvantage employees unable to charge at home.

The wider issue requires continued local and national infrastructure investment.

Fleet managers can control vehicle allocation and workplace charging, but postcode should not become the deciding factor in who gets access to an EV.
