Public Charging Price Watch: Lidl cuts rapid charging to 59p/kWh

Lidl has reduced rapid EV charging to 59p/kWh for Lidl Plus users, down from 62p/kWh, while fast charging costs 40p/kWh.

Without Lidl Plus, rapid charging costs 74p/kWh and fast charging 55p/kWh. The retailer is also investing £10m this financial year, including installing around 100 new rapid chargers at existing stores.

For fleets, the key lesson is that public charging costs increasingly depend on where and how drivers pay.

Managers should compare regularly used networks, app or membership discounts and roaming tariffs rather than reimburse every public charging session at the same assumed rate.

At 59p/kWh, a 60kWh charge costs £35.40 – £9 less than paying Lidl’s 74p contactless rate.

That makes current tariff visibility increasingly valuable for high-mileage fleets.
