Europe’s new passenger car market grew by 0.9% in 2024, with 12,909,741 registrations across 28 European countries, according to JATO Dynamics. Despite this growth, the market remains nearly 2.9 million units smaller than pre-pandemic levels.
Hybrid cars were the only segment to see year-on-year growth, while SUVs dominated, making up nearly 54% of total registrations. The Dacia Sandero became Europe’s best-selling car, overtaking the Tesla Model Y. Chinese-made vehicles outsold Japanese, British, and Turkish models, while Toyota surpassed BMW Group. Meanwhile, BYD registered over 50,000 cars, outselling Alfa Romeo, and Lexus overtook Honda in sales.
