Chinese EV makers cut prices to match UK grants

In response to the UK Government’s new electric vehicle (EV) grant, several Chinese carmakers are offering their own discounts to attract buyers.

The Government’s £650 million scheme offers grants of up to £3,750 for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) priced under £37,000. Eligibility depends on each manufacturer’s sustainability credentials, with two bands of discount: £3,750 for band one and £1,500 for band two.

However, Chinese-made EVs may not meet the required environmental standards to qualify. In light of this, manufacturers are stepping in with their own offers:

GWM UK: £3,750 discount across the full Ora 03 range (Pure, Pro and GT trims).
Matches the Government grant
Can be used as a deposit on a 0% APR PCP finance deal
Reduces entry-level Ora 03 Pure to £21,245 OTR

Leapmotor: Price cuts applied to its T03 and C10 BEVs

MG: £1,500 discount for private buyers of the MG4 EV and MGS5
Offered in addition to existing dealer incentives

MG says its continued support of affordable electric mobility aligns with the environmental aims of the Government and broader EV adoption.
