Nissan Leaf named Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year 2026

The Nissan Leaf has been named the Supreme Winner of the 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year, following a final vote by a global panel of 86 women motoring journalists from 55 countries.

Judges praised the Leaf for its practical, accessible approach to electric mobility, highlighting its smooth driving experience, intuitive technology and competitive pricing. The panel emphasised that the car focuses on real-world usability rather than headline specs, which helped it stand out in a tightly contested final round.

According to the jury, the latest-generation Leaf offers quiet, comfortable driving, strong efficiency and generous interior space, making it well suited to everyday commuting and longer journeys. The model’s pricing was also cited as a key strength, with judges noting it delivers a more premium feel while remaining competitively priced in the EV market.

What the judges look for

The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year evaluates vehicles using the same criteria any driver would apply when choosing a car.

Key factors include:

  • Safety and driver assistance technology
  • Value for money
  • Ease of use and intuitive controls
  • Interior practicality and comfort
  • Environmental performance
  • Design and overall driving experience

Judges stressed that the awards do not aim to identify a “woman’s car”, but instead recognise vehicles that best meet the real needs of everyday drivers.
