Another one? Chinese brand, Li Auto eyes up European market with i6 SUV

Chinese premium car manufacturer, Li Auto is preparing to expand into Europe, with its i6 electric SUV heading to the continent - which could include the UK.

The i6 is due to make its European debut at the Paris Motor Show in October, with European sales scheduled to begin in the Q4 of 2026. Li Auto confirmed plans for a right-hand-drive version of the i6, although a UK introduction hasn't specifically been stated yet.

Measuring in at 4.95m long, the i6 is positioned as a premium electric SUV and would compete with models including the BMW iX3, Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric and Volvo EX60.

In China, the i6 is offered with an 87kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 447-miles under the CLTC testing system. This would place the i6 into the firing line of the iX3 and GLC as they respectively claim similar figures. 

Power outputs range from 335bhp for the rear-wheel-drive version to 536bhp for the all-wheel-drive model, while charging capability is quoted at up to 500kW. Provided you can find such a unit, the i6 can charge from 10-80% in just 11-minutes. 

Inside, the cabin of the i6 can be described as lounge-like. Features such as flexible seating, a rear screen, fridge and additional storage designed to give the SUV a more versatile  cabin. The boot alone has 728-litres of space available, in addition to the front boot and under floor storage. 

Li Auto has sold around 1.8-million vehicles since launching in 2019. For fleets, the i6 represents a significant step as the company seeks to establish its premium brand outside China. To attract UK buyers, Li Auto would have to follow its Chinese competitors by offering substantial warranty and aftersales packages to boost confidence of UK company car drivers.
