Car thefts in the UK fell by 6% in 2024, with a notable 47% drop in Range Rover Sport thefts.
Figures from the DVLA, obtained via a Freedom of Information request, reveal 61,343 reported stolen vehicles. Despite the decline, this remains the third highest figure in a decade and more than double the thefts recorded in 2015.
On average, 168 cars were stolen daily—equating to seven per hour or one every 8.5 minutes.
The Ford Fiesta was the most stolen car, with 4,446 thefts, followed by the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.
While thefts of most top 10 models declined, the Toyota RAV4 and Nissan Juke entered the list. High-performance car thefts also dropped significantly, with fewer Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Bentleys stolen.
