Public Charging Price Watch: how much should fleets really be paying?

The UK average for PAYG rapid and ultra-rapid charging currently stands at around 77p/kWh, according to Zapmap’s latest Charging Price Index.

But current tariffs show how much fleets can save by choosing networks and charging times carefully. InstaVolt offers off-peak charging at 55p/kWh between 8pm and 7am through its app or RFID card, while Lidl Plus and MFG EV Power currently offer rapid charging at 59p/kWh.

For a 60kWh charge:

  • 55p/kWh: £33
  • 59p/kWh: £35.40
  • 77p/kWh: £46.20

That creates a potential difference of £13.20 per 60kWh session between InstaVolt’s off-peak tariff and the current rapid-charging average.

Fleet managers should monitor the networks drivers already use and identify where cheaper tariffs fit existing routes without adding unnecessary mileage or downtime.

As public charging prices diverge, tariff management is becoming another controllable fleet cost.
