Refreshed Mercedes S Class brings tech and efficiency upgrades for 2026

Mercedes Benz has revealed a heavily updated S Class ahead of its on sale date later this year, with more than 2,700 new or revised components making up over 50 percent of the car.

The latest changes focus on comfort, technology and efficiency. New features include heated seatbelts, an illuminated three pointed star and an upgraded active suspension system. All versions retain six cylinder engines and four wheel drive, with a choice of two diesels, two petrols and the S 580e plug in hybrid. Powertrains have been refined to improve efficiency and reduce CO2, while the S 580e now offers a zero emission range of 62 miles.

Every S Class comes with rear wheel steering as standard, with an optional system reducing the turning circle to under 11 metres. A new E Active Body Control setup uses real world road data to adjust suspension in real time.

Inside, passengers benefit from faster air filtration, enhanced seat massage and a new MBUX Superscreen combining a 14.4 inch central display and 12.3 inch passenger screen. UK pricing and specifications will be confirmed closer to launch, with sales expected to begin in summer.
