Volvo EX90 gains 800V system for faster charging and enhanced safety tech

Volvo has opened orders for the 2026 EX90, its flagship electric SUV, with significant upgrades including the adoption of 800V battery architecture.

The new system doubles the voltage of the outgoing 400V design, enabling 155 miles of range to be added in 10 minutes on a 350kW charger – around 40 miles more than before. The 107kWh battery now benefits from shorter charging times overall, alongside weight savings and improved energy efficiency.

Other updates include a new Nvidia Drive AGX Orin-based core computer, which delivers connected safety alerts, enhanced automatic emergency steering, emergency stop assist with automatic e-call, and improved Park Pilot functions. This upgrade can also be retrofitted to 2025 model year EX90s via Volvo dealers.

UK pricing is yet to be confirmed.
